Ah, those silly Bulgarians

Here's the funniest excerpt from my entire history textbook:
Bulgaria had been drawn into the German orbit in the 1930s, and was bought over by territorial ambitions: the prospect of seizing Dobruja....

In March 1941, it became the last state to join the Axis, and German troops immediately moved into the country. On December 13, 1941, King Boris III needlessly declared war on the United States and Britain, though Bulgaria kept diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union. He calculated that this act of war might be a gesture of compliance with Nazi Germany, without requiring any engagements on the Eastern Front...

King Boris died suddenly in August 1943, prompting rumors that he had been poisoned by the Germans. His six-year-old son, Simeon, became King, and the Regency started to contact Britain and the United States about a Peace Settlement....The government tried to move to unconditional neutrality on the Swiss model, but the military situation did not really allow this attractive luxury....

On September 2, 1944, Stalin declared war on Bulgaria, and the government responded by delcaring war on Germany. Since this was intended mainly to impress the western Allies, the news was first spread through embassies, and the Germans at first did not know that another country had declared war on them and denied the rumors. The Bulgarian quest for Swiss-style neutrality had thus led the country to be at war with Britain, Germany, the Soviet Union and the United States.

At war with the US, Germany, the Soviet Union, and Britain. AT. THE. SAME. TIME. Nice job, Bulgaria.

Dalai Lama: "I love George W Bush."

Non-violence can't tackle terrorism.

Well gee. He's also correct about terrorists being well-educated. Something tells me this is going to hurt the head count at future "Free Tibet" rallies.

Let's start this post with my favorite internet comment in a long while:

From a guy in the comments of this article
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/dec/05/climate-change-weather

"George Orwell be liking that line about "cooling not bein' evidence that it isn't warming". You best be believing what we be tellin' you, matey even if your own two eyes tell you different, 'cause halfwitted female community college dropouts majoring in "interpersonal relationships" be tellin you "everybody says so".

Remember, these so called "environmentalists" be human haters at heart. They'd rather see you freeze in the dark than "damage" "the environment." Just WHAT be the "right climate" anyway??? Just what be the "ideal" range. Where be the benchmark we dare not be exceeding? Just when be "global warming turning into "climate change"? Jack be gettin' a charge
outa "climate change" Ya not be goin' wrong with THAT prediction,
AYE.

I mean, a guy writing like he's Jamaican...semi-assuming what Orwell "be" thinking. It's just sooo wonderful.

Where be the benchmark we dare not be exceeding, indeed.

Gmail Themes is pretty cool.

As much as I dislike the idea of being ruled by a corporation someday (although it sounds less bad than being ruled by our behemoth of a government), I wouldn't mind being ruled by a corporation as seamlessly cool as Google. (As leftist as they are. When they're ruling conservatives, they better start recognizing holidays we enjoy, not May Day and other leftist holidays.)

Back to the point. Gmail themes just came out today, and it is about as awesome as you could imagine. Yeah, its just themes. Big whoop. But email is one of those things you check many, many times per day and its cool to have that personalized.

I guess you could call me a Bush Loyalist.

Here's a real good article linked to by Drudge. It made me sad. I'll never forgive Americans for how demonized Bush has been.

Axe "Dark Temptation" -- totally racist its just dumb.

I'm not usually one for finding racist stuff anywhere, but this is just so stupid. Axe is so incredibly juvenile in their ads that I honestly believe the morons at their agency probably did turn a white guy into a giant chocolate man and not see anything particularly offensive about it. "No, no! Its not black-face! Its chocolate-face!"

See for yourself.

Bush's Rarely Talked about Success in Africa

One thing that I will never forgive my country for is the demonization of George W. Bush. I'll admit that he has made mistakes, but I believe that many, if not all of those mistakes stem from the fact that he thinks from the heart more often than he thinks from the head. Here's an excerpt from an important article in the Boston Globe, "Bush's enduring legacy in Africa"
The Bush administration doubled foreign aid worldwide over the past eight years, the largest increase since the Truman administration, and used it to encourage poor countries to undertake political and economic reform. Total US government development aid to Africa alone has quadrupled from $1.3 billion in 2001 to more than $5 billion in 2008, and is scheduled to go to $8.7 billion in 2010, principally for education (primary school enrollment in Africa is up 36 percent since 1999), healthcare, building civil society, and protecting fragile environments.

These are not the kind of numbers that lend themselves well to the traditions of spend-less conservatism. Bush has gotten into trouble for keeping taxes low while increasing spending. That's another problem that comes from his head-heart conundrum. He really believes that lower taxes help lower-class folks, and but also doesn't want to hurt Africans by neglecting them.

I think history will prove Bush to be a great humanitarian and I believe that after his time is up in office he will shy away from the spotlight and continue to help Africa. He won't care if the media mentions his efforts, because he's never cared what they thought about him while he's in office. If he was going to let public opinion affect his decisions, this country would be dramatically different.

Pat Sajak on Rugrats

Yeah, this is kind of a weird topic for a post, but I felt like it anyway. One of the earliest memories I have as a kid is Pat Sajak and his humongous face on an episode of Rugrats, one of the classic cartoons that made Nickelodeon a really great channel for a while. So yeah, here's a picture I found of him. Its the best I could find.

Oh, and if you feel like having a flood of memories that can't be defined or pinpointed come rushing back, check out the site I found it at. Labeled as "The best French Rugrats site," I would guess it hasn't been updated this decade.

Stuff White People Like (SWPL)

At first I was skeptical of this site, but lately it has become more and more obvious that it has taken a turn to the right. This is excellent, mostly because I get a laugh out of all of the liberals who probably started reading it thinking it was light-hearted satire, but then ended up with scathing criticism. Here's a quote from one of the SWPL contest winners, who's article was titled "Comparing People to Hitler":

It’s also critical that you avoid the fatal mistake of getting creative and comparing people you don’t like to other evil dictators, such as Joseph Stalin or Fidel Castro. With few exceptions, white people are actually fond of almost any dictator not named Hitler, and your remark that “this is just like something Mao Zedong would do” will be met with blank stares and possible social alienation. This is because, with the exception of Hitler, oppressive dictators share a passion for many of the things white people love- such as universal health care, conspiracy theories, caring about poor people while being filthy rich, and cool hats.

Beautiful stuff.

Speaking of Bitter...

Obama talks about lost jobs and bitterness, but the Dems still seem pretty bitter about a different kind of loss. This doesn't even qualify as conspiratorial in my book since the mainstream of the left has gone so far left its just ridiculous.
